Hotels Truly Closest To El Yunque National Forest

The Guajataca Forest in Isabela is in the karst region of Puerto Rico and the landscape and plant life is totally different than what we are used to seeing in the north-east of the island. I thought the best part about this forest is exploring Cueva del Viento . During a trip to the south-west part of the island, we found some diving that I would highly recommend. That region is home to « the Wall » and the diving was great! We went wall diving at La Parguera and I thought it was the best diving we have seen on PR. We recently had the opportunity to re-visit the biobay in La Parguera, after having visited it for the first time 18 years ago.
Bioluminescent bay night kayaking tours are popular, departing from the small fishing village of Las Croabas. Rodriguez recommends deep sea fishing for tuna, wahoo and marlin along the Puerto Rico Trench and wall prints taking a sunset cruise in San Juan Bay. Most businesses, including museums, supermarkets, gyms, restaurants and retail stores are open at 30 percent capacity while bars, cafes and discos remain closed.

The only campground on Culebra is the right on Playa Flamenco. It is an amazingly beautiful location, offering breezes and most of the amenities any camper could want. While Culebra is known for its beautiful beaches, great sea life, and relaxing lifestyle, there are also some hiking trails for those times you want to get away from the beach. Some hikes are an easy walk on the beach, and others are longer and more difficult. On the big island of Puerto Rico, we have found only two beaches that have black sand, and both of them are in the Barceloneta/Manatí area on the north coast. This particular black sand beach, called Playa La Boca, is easy to get to, and is available 7 days/week.
A French coffee hacienda in Puerto Rico – what a surprise! The Old Labadie House is located in the town of Moca, in the north-west part of Puerto Rico. This lovely, old house has been turned into a museum, and they offer great, informative tours about the house and the people who lived there. What a wonderful piece of Puerto Rican history and a local treasure. We were at the Cabo Rojo Lighthouse a couple weeks ago and the panoramic views were simply magnificent. I was surprised to see one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen in Puerto Rico.

This article is about our experience with East Island, we have no experience with the trip offered by PR Tour Desk. Segway Tours of Puerto Rico offers 45-minute and 2-hour tours of Old San Juan. Riding a Segway is fun, easy and a unique way to see the city and forts. People come from other Caribbean islands just to shop here! The mall is located in the Hato Rey district of San Juan. There are about 300 stores, including the anchor stores of JC Penney, Macy’s, and Sears.
you can relax and enjoy the breezes and views at the Bacardí Pavilion. As with many islands in the Caribbean, sugar was once the primary cash crop here in Puerto Rico. The Aguirre Central Sugar Mill, located in the town of Salinas, had a thriving « company town » around it to support the employees of the mill. But when the sugar industry declined — they stopped growing sugar cane commercially in Puerto Rico and the mill closed — the town and large tracts of waterfront property was left to waste away. Luckily, The Jobos Bay National Estuarine Research reserve has acquired much of this area and made a nice nature reserve there.

For a great drive along the north coast, take Road 681 in Arecibo instead of Route 2 or Route 22. This coastal road allows you to stop off and enjoy a number of amazing views and beaches. While the Atlantic Ocean can be too rough to swim during much of the year, it provides a great backdrop for a nice afternoon or quick stop by the beach. If you are a fisherman you know how enjoyable it is to spend time out on the water, especially when you catch something. While no captain can gaurentee a catch, Captain Marcos of Light Tackle Paradise in Fajardo is known to have lots of luck. Our friends Wally and Anton recently had a productive morning of fishing, that included tarpon, king mackerel, grouper, and snapper.
President George Bush issued an executive order which officially renamed it to El Yunque National Forest. Here are some fast facts about El Yunque to give you some context of the tropical rainforest’s importance to Puerto Rico. Listen for the sound of the ubiquitous Coquis, a collective term for dozens of small frog species that have become an unofficial symbol of the island. It’s actually in a whole different section of the forest- you won’t find it along PR-191.
Due to boating « mishaps » and the loss of coastal habitat, there are fewer than 600 of these gentle creatures in our local waters. The Manatee Conservation Center at the Inter American University of Puerto Rico works to rescue, rehabilitate, and release injured and orphaned manatees. Their endeavors are supported by volunteers and donations. You can help by taking a tour of their rehabilitation center, meeting the manatees « in person », and making a donation. Your visit can help make a difference between saving this species … and extinction. If you are looking for something to do on Vieques other than go to beaches, the US Fish and Wildlife Service has made 3 new hiking trails.

I didn’t even know there was a river on the island that was suitable for it. But luckily, Puerto Rico Ríos Rafting Company started running trips out of Las Marias on the Río Grande de Anasco river. The river has lots of twists & turns, and ups & downs, to make for an exciting and fun adventure.
Fajardo is located on the northern tip of Puerto Rico, about an hour’s drive from Luis Munoz Marin International Airport. Owned by Waldorf Astoria, hotel highlights include a water park by the sea, a top-notch spa (with kids’ services) and a private island with water sports, hiking trails and postcard-worthy vistas. San Juan, El Yunque National Forest and Culebra are easy day trip destinations to consider. In this tour you will be getting more for what you pay, you’ll experience a city tour, beach tour, cave tour and rainforest tour all in one.
